What happened
- On October 19, 2026, Notion published the sixth generation of its “harness” (the framework that organizes how an agent uses tools and memory). According to the company, an agent can work on a single task for more than 24 hours, up from five minutes.
- It introduced a router called Auto, which picks the model for each task. Across more than 20 use cases, Notion says it matched Opus 5.5 and Astra on results at about 90% lower average cost.
- Seats on Business and Enterprise plans include each month 1,500 Standard credits, where Notion picks the model, and 500 Select credits, where the user picks it or a custom agent runs.
- The credit system applies now to new accounts. Existing ones switch on November 2 and administrators will receive an email.
Why it matters
- An agent that works a whole day changes the billing unit: what counts is no longer how many queries are made, but how much time and which model a task uses. An SME with five seats gets 7,500 Standard credits a month and must estimate how many a long task consumes.
- The 90% reduction is Notion’s own calculation over 20 cases, not an audit. It works as a ceiling of what is possible, not as an average for an operation in Santiago.
- The consequence the announcement does not highlight: Auto chooses the model, so the user no longer knows which model processes their company’s data. Anyone with confidentiality clauses should review it before November 2.
The number
1,500 + 500. Monthly credits per seat on Business and Enterprise, Standard and Select. The price of additional credits is not in the announcement.
Context
The price of agent work is being tied to consumption. Anthropic raised the usage limits for Opus 5.5 while fixing its price per token, and LongHarness measured that the cost of the same task varies with the harness. Notion puts the harness at the center of its offering.
What’s next
- November 2, 2026: migration of existing accounts to the credit system.
- No date: the AI Command Center, described as “soon”, and bring-your-own-key mode (BYOK), now in alpha for Enterprise.
- Contracts that have not yet renewed receive the same credits; plan amounts are set at renewal.
Bottom line
Competition among work assistants is moving from the model to the invoice. When the agent can work unsupervised for a day, spending control becomes a product feature.
