Google puts an AI agent on top of Ads and Analytics, and reports start answering back
Ask Advisor summarizes changes, generates reports from text instructions and compares campaigns with similar businesses, taking AI from the dashboard to the decision.
What happened
- Google added new features to Ask Advisor, a Gemini-based agent built into its marketing platforms.
- Google Analytics shows AI summaries on the home page to explain relevant changes since the last session, such as shifts in traffic or sales.
- Google Ads adds personalized insight cards and a field where you can ask for analysis of competitors, impression share or trends.
- The new Google Ads Dashboards let you generate visualizations from natural-language instructions. The feature will come to Analytics later.
- Analytics also adds comparisons with anonymized averages from similar businesses.
Why it matters
- For marketing teams without a dedicated analyst, the cost of asking a question about the data drops considerably. It’s no longer essential to build the report first and only then interpret it.
- For analysts, the opposite happens: value moves from producing charts to checking whether the automatic explanation makes sense. A fast answer can still be a wrong answer.
- Benchmarking adds context many small businesses didn’t have. Knowing that CTR fell matters; knowing whether it fell while comparable businesses rose changes the decision.
- Google is bringing diagnosis and execution together in the same interface. Fewer tabs also means less friction between a recommendation and a budget change.
Context
The features are built with Gemini, and several remain in beta for English-language accounts. Google has spent years automating bidding and targeting; now it’s also automating the layer that explains what happened.
What’s next
- Dashboards will come to Google Analytics soon.
- Users can set up notifications for Analytics summaries by phone or email.
- Some features will keep expanding from English-language accounts before wider availability.
The traditional dashboard expected someone to know what to ask. The new one wants to suggest the question, explain the answer and bring the button to act closer. Those are three different jobs. It’s worth continuing to treat them that way.
