What happened
- On August 26, Salesforce and Anthropic announced Claudeforce, an expansion of their partnership, on the same day Salesforce reported results for the second quarter of fiscal 2027.
- The first product is Salesforce in Claude: a plugin with 37 prebuilt sales skills for preparing meetings, reviewing the status of an opportunity and updating the pipeline without opening Salesforce.
- The integration runs both ways. Claude becomes the reasoning engine for Atlas in Agentforce and the default model in Slack and Slackbot.
- It is available to a limited group of pilot customers. The open beta is planned for September 2026 and additional skills for the end of the year.
- Neither company disclosed pricing for any part of the deal.
Why it matters
- Patrick Stokes, Salesforce’s president of Applications and Marketing, stated the bet bluntly: when people stop using Salesforce through its traditional interface and start using it through an agentic one, Salesforce’s value goes up. It’s an unusual statement from a company that built almost three decades of product on screens.
- For any brand whose relationship with users lives in its own interface — a portal, an app, a dashboard — the precedent is uncomfortable. If the agent operates the software, the screen stops being the place where the brand shows up.
- The consequence that isn’t in the announcement: the point of contact shifts to the model. Whoever controls the model controls the context your product appears in, the order in which it’s mentioned and what gets left out. It’s the search-advertising debate all over again, twenty years later and with far fewer players at the table.
The number
37 prebuilt skills. They cover the routine part of a sales week: meeting prep, opportunity reviews and pipeline reviews.
Context
Salesforce’s stock has been punished for almost two years by the thesis that AI agents will drain enterprise software of its value. Marc Benioff used the launch to dismiss that idea out loud. The shares rose in extended trading the same day.
What’s next
- September 2026: open beta of Salesforce in Claude.
- End of 2026: new prebuilt skills.
- No pricing announced for any of the components.
Bottom line
Salesforce spent twenty-seven years teaching sales teams to work inside its screen. Its newest product is about getting them to stop.
