What is on-page SEO?
On-page SEO (or on-site SEO) is everything you optimize within your own pages so they answer a search well: the title, meta description, headings, copy, images, internal links, URLs and structured data.
It refers to what depends 100% on you. That is why it is the first place to look: you need nobody to link to you and no waiting on Google to fix it.
On-page SEO techniques that make a difference, with examples:
- A title that says what the person searches: «Adult swimming lessons in Maipú», not «Welcome».
- A first paragraph that answers without detours.
- Headings that organize the content like a table of contents.
- Links to your related pages with descriptive text.
To check your on-page SEO, any audit tool or free checker flags the basics in minutes.

What is the difference between on-page and off-page SEO?
On-page SEO is what you do inside your site: content, titles, structure, speed. Off-page SEO is what happens outside your site and talks about you: links from other sites, media mentions, reviews, brand presence.
An easy way to remember it: on-page is your résumé; off-page is your references. You write the résumé and can improve it today. References depend on others, and are earned with time and good work.
You need both. A perfect site nobody recommends competes poorly for contested searches; a heavily linked site whose pages answer nothing wastes its authority. If you have to pick a starting point, start with on-page: it is cheaper, faster and makes off-page work pay more.

What is an SEO title and how long should it be?
The SEO title (the title tag or meta title) is the text that appears as the blue link on Google and in the browser tab. It is probably the most important line on your page: it decides whether you appear and whether you get the click.
The ideal length is 50 to 60 characters: Google truncates by pixel width (about 600 pixels), not by exact count, so a character counter is a guide, not a law. Put what matters first.
How to write a good title:
- The main search, phrased the way people phrase it.
- A differentiator: price, place, year, «guide», «free».
- Your brand at the end, if it fits.
Worth knowing: Google rewrites titles when it thinks they do not describe the page well. If that happens often, your title promises something the content does not deliver. In WordPress you set the SEO title in your plugin (Yoast, Rank Math), not in the post title.

What is a slug, and what makes an SEO-friendly URL?
The slug is the final part of a URL that identifies the page: in «mamiferolab.com/all-about-seo», the slug is «all-about-seo». An SEO-friendly URL is short, readable and describes the content.
Rules for a good slug:
- Lowercase, words separated by hyphens, no accents or special characters.
- Only the important words: «/adult-swimming-lessons», not «/2026/09/23/post-id=4815-adult-swimming-lessons-and-more».
- No dates if the content is evergreen.
- Stable: changing a published slug requires a 301 redirect.
In WordPress you edit the slug in the post panel (Yoast and Rank Math show it in their preview). And one tip that prevents drama: decide your URL structure before launch. Changing it later is the riskiest SEO operation for losing traffic.

What does «SEO friendly» mean?
«SEO friendly» means a site, template or text is built so search engines can crawl, understand and index it without obstacles. It is another way of saying «optimized for SEO».
An SEO-friendly site has readable URLs, tidy HTML, editable titles, fast loading, works well on mobile and does not hide its content behind JavaScript or images.
Beware the sales label: almost every WordPress theme, site builder and agency claims to be «SEO friendly». It is like a restaurant calling itself «tasty»: it tells you nothing until you try it. Ask whoever sells it for a demonstration in Search Console or an audit of a real site built with that tool.
How do I optimize images for SEO?
Images help SEO in two ways: they help your page load fast (or sink it if they are heavy) and they can appear on their own in Google Images and visual results.
The essentials of image optimization:
- Alt text: describe the image for whoever cannot see it, whether a person using a screen reader or a search engine. «Mille-feuille cake with dulce de leche, top view», not «image1».
- A descriptive file name before uploading.
- Modern formats (WebP or AVIF) at their real display size: do not upload a 4,000-pixel photo to show it at 400.
- Declared width and height, so the page does not «jump» while loading.
- Lazy loading for images further down the page.
Your own photos beat stock images: Google has already seen that stock photo on a thousand sites.

What are internal links and why do they matter?
Internal links (interlinking) go from one page on your site to another page on the same site. They are SEO's circulatory system: they show the search engine which pages exist, which matter and how they relate.
To make them work:
- Use real links, an a tag with an href; buttons that navigate with JavaScript are sometimes not followed by bots.
- Descriptive anchor text: «see swimming lesson prices», not «click here».
- Link from strong pages to the ones you want to push.
- No orphaned important pages: if nothing links to a page, Google takes longer to find it or treats it as secondary.
The footer and menu are internal links too, but they count for less than a link inside the text, where context explains why the destination is worth visiting.

What are link juice and anchor text?
Anchor text is the clickable text of a link. It tells the search engine what the destination page is about: a link that says «local SEO guide» is a much better clue than one that says «here».
Link juice is the informal way of talking about the authority a link passes from one page to another, the idea behind Google's original PageRank. A high-authority page linking to you passes on some of that strength.
Two warnings: repeating the exact same anchor text across many external links looks artificial and is a classic sign of bought links; and links marked nofollow, sponsored or ugc pass little or nothing, as Google decides. For internal links, on the other hand, descriptive and varied anchors are simply good work.

What are breadcrumbs?
Breadcrumbs are the navigation trail showing where you are on a site: «Home › Labs › Dicseonary». They help people go back and help search engines understand the hierarchy of your pages.
For SEO they help in three ways: they create orderly internal links, they reinforce the site's structure and, with BreadcrumbList structured data, they spell out that hierarchy to Google explicitly.
How to add them: in WordPress, Yoast SEO and Rank Math include a breadcrumbs block or function with markup built in; in online stores, almost every theme shows them on categories and products. Use them mostly on sites with several levels (stores, big blogs, directories). On a one-page landing they add nothing.

What is site architecture or SEO site structure?
Site architecture is how a site's pages are organized and connected: which sections exist, what sits inside what, and how many clicks separate the homepage from each page. It is the house plan before the decoration.
A good SEO structure is:
- Flat: important pages are a few clicks from the homepage (ideally three or fewer).
- Logical: categories that reflect how people search, not how your company is organized internally.
- Duplicate-free: one page per intent, not three versions of the same thing.
- Backed by URLs consistent with that hierarchy.
The classic mistake is the org chart turned into a menu: «About us, Divisions, Commercial Management…». Nobody cares about your org chart. Organize by what people come looking for, and the site explains itself.

Can a landing page rank on Google?
Yes, if it is designed for it. Many landing pages are built for paid campaigns: little text, a form and nothing else. They work with ads, but compete poorly in organic search because they do not answer the query with enough content.
An SEO landing page needs what Google rewards: a clear title, copy explaining what you offer and addressing typical doubts, FAQs, proof (reviews, cases) and links from the rest of the site.
About one-page websites (everything on a single page): they can rank for your brand and one or two main searches, but they have a ceiling. A single URL cannot be the best answer to twenty different searches. As the business grows, the healthy move is giving each service its own page.

What is a SERP, and what is a snippet?
The SERP (Search Engine Results Page) is the results page Google shows after a search. Today it is much more than ten blue links: it can include an AI summary, ads, a map with businesses, videos, images, products, «People also ask» and news.
A snippet is how each result looks: title, URL and description text. Featured snippets are answers extracted from a page that Google shows in a box at the top, and rich results add stars, prices or dates thanks to structured data.
That is why «what position am I in?» is no longer enough. The useful question is «what does the person see on the SERP for my search, and where on that screen do I appear?».

What is CTR in SEO and how do you improve it?
CTR (click-through rate) is the percentage of people who click your result after seeing it. If your page appeared 1,000 times on Google and got 50 clicks, your CTR is 5%. You measure it in Google Search Console, per page and per query.
CTR depends heavily on position (the first organic result takes a big share of clicks, the tenth almost none) and on what sits above: with an AI summary on top, the first result can lose more than half the clicks it would get without it.
How to improve it without moving up:
- Titles that promise something specific (a number, a year, a place, a price).
- Meta descriptions that invite the click.
- Structured data adding stars or prices.
- Readable URLs.
If a page gets lots of impressions and little CTR, the problem is almost always its title.
↳ Our note (in Spanish): AI summaries take 58% of the first result’s clicks
